Services for Adolescents and their Families

Adolescent Early Intervention and Prevention Program (EIP):

The EIP treats adolescents who suffer from substance abuse. This program utilizes the group process in peer group, parents group and multi-family group. An educational component is also provided to the adolescent and his or her family. We incorporate a family systems approach along with behavioral and cognitive techniques to increase insight and attain goals.

The goals are to increase awareness of the negative effects of use and to help the adolescent identify the need to discontinue use. The program aids the adolescents in gaining motivation and self knowledge necessary to resist substance abuse. We also help parents and families deal with how this is affecting them. We help family members gain awareness of patterns of behavior which may be ineffectual. This is a family-based program.

The EIP also serves as an ongoing extended evaluation. Progress is constantly re-evaluated and decisive recommendations are made accordingly. We often identify a true chemical dependency problem as well as other life difficulties or mental health issues that must be addressed so that the family can return to a healthy functional state.

Families usually attend this program for twelve weeks. More often than not, the EIP is an effective adjunct to ongoing individual and family treatment.

The Adolescent Education and Extended Evaluation Substance Abuse Program (EEE):

Adolescents attend a weekly one-hour education series with random urine screening for six weeks. This program is designed to increase awareness and also serves as an extended evaluation. Often a more pervasive drug problem is identified. Parents and family members are urged to participate.

The Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP):

IOPs were designed as an alternative to the traditional 28-day inpatient or rehab stay, which is usually followed by outpatient treatment. This program allows the individual to remain at home, in the community, and continue with schoolwork while being treated for chemical dependency.

Our Adolescent IOP utilizes peer group process, milieu therapy, education and experiential exercises. The program is designed to address the special needs of the adolescent. Self-awareness and motivation are enhanced and incorporation of a 12 Step lifestyle is stressed.

There is a weekly family night, which is comprised of a parent group and a multi-family group.

Adolescents progress through a status system, attending less treatment as status increases. This serves to motivate and give reinforcement to progress.
